not many people care tho as many if not most users adapt to the OS that manufacturers put on their pcs. i think only mac os is trying to actively compete with windows tbh, linux is pretty good but up to the user if they want to try and learn another new platform from what theyre used to. btw not all people are computer enthusiast so i rather doubt they would even consider other OS

Not al specific software is available on linux. Also a lot of games don't run directly on linux, only with a lot of work. I want a system that runs everything without struggling to get it there or finding it won't work at all. Windows is reliable, easy and everything runs on it. There is no other os that offers all 3. Yes I've tampered with linux, I even use Linux on a daily base, but just on systems dedicated to one purpose.

Windows isn't dying, it is doing just fine. And MS is putting effort in, just because Linux is better OS for you personally, that isn't a problem for everyone. As gaming OS Windows is still best, due to out of the box compatibility with pretty much all games. While on Linux you need additional software to run Windows games and you can only hope that compatibility has ben improved for your title. Otherwise you will get worse experience. As for everyday use, like browsing or office you won't really notice a difference between the two. Though you definitely will want MS Office, just to make sure everything you send out business wise or for school is properly working and formatted. Yes, Libre Office can do it, but as soon as you start using advanced elements, it starts falling apart pretty quickly and for example some term papers will automatically be failed, if formatting isn't spot on.

ahh no effort. thats why they let us to downgrade/upgrade from vista for free, instead of telling smthing like "if ya like cumputer you must love vista"-bullshit like apple did on their products. But you're right. The monopoly is always the dead-end for the customer. Healthy competition would be fine for evryone
